The Senegalese capital will not host a Conference during season 6 of the Basketball Africa League (Bal). Information provided by the president of the Bal, Amadou Gallo Fall, yesterday, during an online conference with journalists.

Indeed, for season 6 of the African Basketball League, organized by the NBA in collaboration with Fiba, Dakar will not host the Sahara Conference. The information was given yesterday by the president of the Bal, Amadou Gallo Fall, during an online press conference with journalists.

“Senegal remains a priority country, Dakar is home to the headquarters of the Bal. We have a long history with Senegal in terms of activities and connection with the NBA. Not playing here this year in no way diminishes the interest we have in Senegal and especially the attachment and support of the public,” he declared. Before continuing: “We are in discussions to see, in terms of activities, what we are going to do. We’re not going to bring a conference, but see what we can do to stay connected to the fans.
Note that season 6 will begin on Friday March 27 at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, while the final is scheduled for Sunday May 31 at the Bk Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. The 2026 Bal season will see the 12 best teams from 12 African countries compete, for a total of 42 matches played in Pretoria, Rabat (Morocco) and Kigali.
For this season, the 12 teams will be divided into two conferences of six teams each. Each Conference will play a group stage of 15 matches, during which each team will play the other five teams in its Conference once. The group stage of the Kalahari Conference will take place from March 27 to Sunday April 5 in Pretoria. That of the Sahara Conference will take place from Friday April 24 to Sunday May 3 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. Eight teams, from the two conferences, will qualify for the Play-offs in Kigali, from Friday May 22 to Sunday May 31.
For the second consecutive year, Senegal will be represented by Asc Ville de Dakar. The Municipality club was eliminated in the group stage during its first participation. With a record of four defeats, the Senegalese champion finished in last place in the Sahara Conference.
“The return of the Bal to South Africa, Morocco and Rwanda for our sixth season testifies to the richness of the sporting culture and the rapid development of basketball in these countries,” added the president of the Bal.
In addition to the games, the Ball will celebrate the convergence of basketball and African culture through the music, fashion, lifestyle and entertainment that surrounds the sport today, with the presence of renowned celebrities and influencers. The league will also collaborate with its partners to organize basketball development and social impact programs in the three host markets, as well as Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal, including clinics for youth, coaches and referees, children’s literacy and education initiatives, media networks, and a series of camps and workshops for young women as part of Bal4Her, the league’s platform to promote gender equality in the sports ecosystem African.
