PRAGUE – 20 years ago, on January 6, 2006, Czech ski jumper Jakub Janda became the second Czech in history to win the prestigious Four Bridges Tour.

The then twenty-seven-year-old Czech representative shared the overall triumph with Finn Jann Ahonen, which happened for the first time in history. Janda imitated the triumph of Olympic winner Jiří Raška, who won the event on the Austrian-German bridges in 1971.

During the Tour, Janda won one of the races. With his triumph in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he became the first Czech in 16 years to win the Tour of Four Bridges race. Janda’s successful year was not confirmed at the February Olympics in Turin, where he was left without a medal, but he retained first place in the final ranking of the World Cup and became the first Czech jumper in history to win the Crystal Globe. Five partial wins also helped him to the overall triumph.

A native of Čeladna (born on April 27, 1978), who has lived in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm all his life, he started to get involved in politics during his sports career, in 2008 he joined the ODS. In autumn 2017, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, after which he ended his professional career.

In the years 2018 – 2023, he was the chairman of the ski jumping section of the Skiers’ Association of the Czech Republic. Last year, he was elected to the House of Representatives for the third time in a row, and in November he became the chairman of the control committee.
