The Athletics, the San Diego Padres, the Kansas City Royals and the Houston Astros formalized the signing of five young Cuban baseball players during the current international period : fielder Darián Rojas, pitchers Jordan Pérez, and outfielders Jaider Suárez, Jack Valbrune and Joniel Hernández, respectively, confirming the strong presence of the island’s talent in professional baseball.
According to journalist Francys Romero on the social network Facebook, these talented players have the necessary potential to climb the ladder of the Big League system.
Darián Rojas, athletic hopeful for Athletics
Les Athletics have signed habanero gardener Darián Rojas for a $500,000 bonus.
Rojas was a member of the Cuba U-18 team in 2024 and is valued for his athleticism, natural touch and high playing coefficient (IQ). Evaluators believe he still has several developing skills, making him a project with growth potential.
Jordan Pérez, young arm for San Diego
Right pitcher Jordan Pérez reached an agreement with the San Diego Padres for $300,000.
Trained at former MLB player Alex Sánchez’s prestigious academy, Pérez was a member of the Cuba U-15 team in 2024. He currently runs between 88 and 91 mph, with an elite-rated slider and remarkable command, qualities that make him an attractive long-term arm.
Jaider Suárez, the great class asset for Kansas City
The Kansas City Royals achieved one of the biggest bets by signing outfielder Jaider Suárez for $1.7 million.
Considered one of the elite prospects in his class, Suárez combines a 60 arm, good contact, power and great athleticism. He was part of the Cuba U-15 team in 2022 and will be represented by the renowned Wasserman agency.
Jack Valbrune joined the Astros
Les Houston Astros formalized the signing from gardener Jack Valbrune, originally from Santiago de Cuba, for a bonus of $375,000.
Valbrune developed at the Javier Rodríguez Academy and is recognized for his ability as a drummer. At the time of signing, he was accompanied by scout Charlie González and Astros manager Joe Espada, reflecting the organization’s interest in his projection.
Joniel Hernández realizes his dream with the Padres
