Crystal Palace Sign Johnson: Club-Record Transfer

Offensive all-rounder Brennan Johnson (24) is switching jobs between London rivals Tottenham and Crystal Palace. Spurs will collect a sum of 40 million euros from the competitor, which is the most expensive arrival in the club’s history from the point of view of the Eagles. The Welsh representative has signed a contract valid for the next four and a half years in his new place of work.

“I’m really pleased we’ve managed to sign Brennan. He’s coming in very early in the transfer window so the club deserves credit for completing the move so quickly. Brennan will provide us with additional options in the attacking game with his speed and shooting ability and will be a valuable asset to the team with all the upcoming matches in mind.” manager Oliver Glasner said of the new acquisition.

“I’m really excited and happy. Crystal Palace is a great club that I have always admired. It’s a special opportunity for me to be here and join the journey this club is on – I’m really excited.” Johnson said after signing a long-term contract.

The most expensive signing in Palace history

Crystal Palace will pay €40 million for Johnson, making him the most expensive signing in the club’s history. The imaginary first place in the ranking has been held by striker Christian Benteke, for whom the Eagles sent a sum of 31.2 million euros to Liverpool in the summer of 2016.

However, Tottenham will lose out on the Nottingham Forest protege, as they brought him from his parent company for 55 million euros two and a half years ago. At that time, he became the third most expensive Spurs player, with whom he secured the triumph in the Europa League with the winning goal last season.

Johnson dropped out of the starting line-up following the arrival of manager Thomas Frank, yet leaves Tottenham with a very respectable record. In 106 competitive matches, he scored 27 goals and added 18 assists. The native of Nottingham is a regular in the Welsh national team, with whom he appeared at the 2022 World Cup. He made 42 starts and 7 accurate hits in the national team.
