Beaten in the final of the Spanish Super Cup by Raphinha’s FC Barcelona (3-2), Real Madrid left Jeddah frustrated. Despite a generally balanced match, the Madrilenians have the feeling of having missed their chance, especially after a more successful second half. Thibaut Courtois, author of a decent match in his cage, did not hide his disappointment at the final whistle, believing that the scenario of the match could have shifted in favor of his team.
The 33-year-old Belgian goalkeeper pointed out a lack of audacity at the start of the match, while emphasizing Madrid’s domination after the break: “We deserved to win in the second half. We could have perfectly won this match. In the first half we were perhaps too careful.” Courtois also regretted not having exploited Vinicius’ performance more: “we didn’t enjoy this version of Vini today. It was a nightmare for them and we didn’t take advantage of it.”
