Thibaut Courtois was frustrated after Real Madrid’s defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final this Sunday evening (3-2). The Red Devil believes that his team could very well have won this meeting.
“We had a good match, especially in the second half,” he underlines in the mixed zone according to SPORT Diary. “Losing a final against your big rival is never pleasant. You have to keep going. I think that in the second half we deserved to win, the details worked against us today. We showed that we are a team that is alive and well and we could have won perfectly.”
A less good first half?
He admits that the first half was more difficult for his team: “In the first half we were too closed in, we didn’t play as well as we could, as we showed in the second half. We had chances, but they didn’t go in. It’s the details that define a match. We had opportunities, but almost all of them ended up in the hands of Joan García.”
Positive point for Real Madrid, Vinicius, who found the net again. Thibaut Courtois is delighted: “We have complete confidence in him. He is a great player and we know what he is capable of. He has demonstrated it again. His goal is an exceptional goal.”
“Throughout the match he was a real nightmare for them and maybe we didn’t exploit him enough. He had a great game and I hope we can take the positives from it. January is an important month.”

Thibaut Courtois was then clear on the consequences of this final: “It doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t change anything. We must continue to fight and, with the attitude we had today, we must demonstrate it now in La Liga and in the Champions League.”
