According to a statement from the Europa League, 56-year-old Bueno was unanimously elected by the Europa League Commercial Assets (ECA) Board of Directors and will replace Lithuanian Paulius Motiejunas, who was appointed as CEO in June 2023.
In the statement, it was stated that Bueno had more than 30 years of experience in the professional sports ecosystem, and that his career was closely linked to basketball both on and off the field. He started his professional playing career with Barcelona in the 1988-89 season, played for five different clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Valencia Basket. After ending his playing career, he transitioned to managerial and administrative positions in the basketball industry.
It was stated that after starting his off-field career in the Spanish Association of Basketball Players (ABP), he joined the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) in 2006 as Executive Director, and during his tenure, the Spain National Basketball Team won the 2006 FIBA World Championship and the 2009 EuroBasket, and achieved a silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2007 EuroBasket.
It was stated that Bueno later took on some positions in the American Basketball League (NBA), serving as Vice President of Europe, Africa and the Middle East and General Manager of NBA Spain.
