Chelsea fired coach Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day. According to British media, the dismissal has nothing to do with the club’s sporting performance, but with a disturbed relationship between the Italian and the board.
Two weeks ago, the 45-year-old Maresca made some striking statements at a press conference after a competitive match against Everton. “The last 48 hours have been the worst since I joined the club because many people have not supported us,” he said at the time.
Maresca delivered Chelsea a top prize last summer by winning the World Cup for club teams in the United States. After that, the Londoners also started the competition well, but in December things came to an end. Chelsea have won only one of their last seven league matches.
