Champions League Play-Off Draw: Real Madrid vs Benfica & PSG vs Monaco

The play-off draw for the last 16 of the 2025/26 Champions League has been held, with a number of hot matches being played again to determine the eight teams that will qualify for the last 16.

The end of the 2025/26 Champions League ‘league phase’ brought plenty of drama and heroics, with Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin’s last-minute goal against Real Madrid, which ensured Jose Mourinho’s side progress, undoubtedly the standout moment of the final game.

We now know the identities of the 24 teams in the knockout stages, with 16 teams going into the play-offs for the chance to join the top eight teams in the round of 16.

Format of the knockout phase play-off round

Teams that finish in positions nine to 16 are seeded teams for the knockout play-off round, while teams that finish in positions 17 to 24 are not seeded teams.

The seeded teams are divided into four pairs based on their league rankings and the unseeded teams are also grouped into four pairs based on their league rankings. The draw will determine who will face whom.

The first legs of the knockout play-offs will take place on 18 and 19 February, with the second legs taking place a week later on 25 and 26 February.
