GLASGOW (UNITED KINGDOM), 6 Ene. (dpa/EP) –
Glasgow Celtic have dismissed Wilfried Nancy as first team coach this Monday a month after his arrival, and his place will be taken for the rest of the season by veteran Martin O’Neill, who already served as interim coach before the Frenchman’s appointment.
Both O’Neill and Nancy played eight games in charge of the team and had opposite fortunes. The 73-year-old Northern Irish coach won seven games, while Nancy lost six.
“I am very happy, in fact, I feel very honored to have been asked to manage the team again, and I am looking forward to working with the players again. I know that we would all have wished that things had worked out differently with Wilfried, and I personally want to wish him good luck in everything he does in football. He is a good man and I am sure that he will succeed again, I have no doubt,” said O’Neill.
The club’s head of football operations, Paul Tisdale, has also left his position following Saturday’s home defeat to Rangers (3-1). The club announced on Monday that it had “decided to terminate the contract of coach Wilfried Nancy with immediate effect.”
Currently, after the defeat in the ‘Old Firm’, Celtic occupies second place in the Scottish league with the same points as its eternal rival, Rangers (38), and six behind the leader, Hearts (44).
