All the rewards had not yet been distributed. Three after the outcome of the African Football Cup of Nations, marked by a rainy and electric final won by Senegal against Morocco (1-0 ap), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled this Wednesday the ideal eleven for the competition. A moment always awaited by fans and subject to discussion and controversy.
The composition of the typical “11” for the 35th edition of this CAN is reduced to players from – only – three selections. There are four Moroccans, four Senegalese and three Nigerians. Logically the three countries which make up the podium of the tournament, Nigeria having beaten Egypt in the match for 3rd place.
Crowned best player in the competition – and savior of the final after asking his partners to resume the game after the referee’s decision – Sadio Mané is logically present in the 11 type. The Senegalese, who played his last CAN, is accompanied by three other Lions of Teranga.
Morocco is also particularly well represented with four players including goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, heroic in the semi-final against Nigeria and in the final. Thanks to his performances, the Atlas Lions only conceded 2 goals during the entire competition.
Even if he did not play the first matches due to an injury, the Parisian and Moroccan captain Achraf Hakimi is also distinguished. Just like his partner Brahim Diaz who, despite his failed and controversial panenka in the final, finished as the tournament’s top scorer (5 goals) and has long carried the hopes of an entire people on his shoulders.
The attacking line of this ideal 11 is completed by the Nigerian Victor Osimhen, author of 4 goals during the competition.
