Mauritanian referee Dahane Beida has been appointed to direct the quarter-final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations between Cameroon and Morocco, Friday in Rabat (8 p.m.). A surprising decision, since the Egyptian Amin Mohamed Omar had for a time been chosen by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The latter, who should have operated at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, had already been on the whistle for an Indomitable Lions match. The latter then won against Gabon (1-0). He officiated during another group stage match during Burkina Faso’s victory against Sudan (2-0).
Opening match in Ivory Coast
Friday should have been his ninth appearance at the helm of a CAN game. The forty-year-old made his big debut in 2019 in Egypt. In 2024, Amin Omar had the honor of refereeing the opening match of the competition in Ivory Coast. The Elephants beat Guinea-Bissau (2-0).
Active since 2013, Fifa referee since 2017, he is experienced in refereeing during continental competitions. He generally officiates on the pitches of the Egyptian Championship, but he also has matches in the African Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup to his credit.
