BVB: Adeyemi Under Kovac – New Role Defined

After his outburst of anger before the winter break, Karim Adeyemi has to report to the Bundesliga soccer team Borussia Dortmund’s training camp. Coach Niko Kovac announced a clarifying conversation in Marbella on Friday after the national player was extremely annoyed about his substitution against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-0).

“We haven’t done that yet. After the game, of course, everyone went off in their own directions,” reported Kovac, who said he had already contacted Adeyemi: “We want to go over this again in a personal conversation with four, six or eight eyes – depending on who is taking part.”

“That’s not appropriate, and Karim knows that too.”

Adeyemi was substituted against Gladbach after a poor performance and a red card and was then prevented from escaping into the dressing room by sports director Sebastian Kehl, cursing and gesticulating wildly. The sports director then immediately announced a penalty. “That’s not appropriate, and Karim knows that too,” Kehl emphasized at the time about the twenty-three-year-old’s departure: “That’s why he’ll get a fine for it.”

According to Kovac, Adeyemi had enough time over Christmas and the New Year to reflect on his behavior. “I also know Karim very well, Karim is a very, very good boy by nature,” said the BVB coach: “I know that he made a mistake. He will certainly change that again accordingly.”

Adeyemi had previously made headlines for his trouble with the judiciary over a “mystery box” that contained illegal weapons.

In addition, there will be a change in the Dortmund coaching team in the new year: BVB parted ways with the previous standard expert Alex Clapham early. “His contract would have expired in the summer anyway. We have both come to the conclusion that we are now going our separate ways,” said Kovac, briefly commenting on the personnel at the start of training.

The 36-year-old Englishman had previously announced his departure from BVB himself via an internet platform. Clapham was once brought in by Kovac’s predecessor Nuri Sahin. According to information from the German Press Agency, his contract would not have been extended. There should be no replacement.
