Bundesliga: Toppmöller Out – Eintracht Frankfurt News

Bundesliga soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt has parted ways with coach Dino Toppmöller with immediate effect. The association confirmed the end of the collaboration on Platform X.

Previously, Sky and the Bild-Newspaper reported on the separation.

The reason is the Frankfurt team’s season, which has been very changeable so far. At the start of the second half of the season there was a 3-3 draw at Werder Bremen. Crisis discussions were then held, and sports director Markus Krösche exchanged views with the supervisory board in a telephone conference called at short notice. The result: Toppmöller’s dismissal. Krösche had already avoided a clear commitment to the coach after the game and clearly criticized the team’s performance. We now have to discuss the issues and ensure that such an appearance does not happen again, he said.

Defensive problems and a downward trend in sport

Toppmöller has been criticized for a long time, especially because of persistent defensive weaknesses. Eintracht conceded 39 goals in 18 Bundesliga games, nine in the first three league games of the new year alone. In addition, the Hessians were only able to win once in the last seven competitive games. In the league they slipped to 7th place. The ambitions in Frankfurt are the European Cup places, that is currently in danger.

In terms of sport, Frankfurters have important tasks ahead of them in the coming days. Eintracht will face Karabakh Agdam on Wednesday in order to avoid an early exit from the Champions League. The home game against TSG Hoffenheim follows on Saturday in the Bundesliga.

Successful start, difficult second season

The 45-year-old Toppmöller came to Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 as the successor to Oliver Glasner, who led the club to the Europa League triumph in 2022. In his first season, Toppmöller became the first Frankfurt coach to qualify for the Champions League via the Bundesliga with attractive offensive football. In the current season, however, the team was no longer able to build on these performances.
