O british newspaper Mirror This Tuesday, he launches a real ‘bombshell’, saying that Bruno Fernandes is “disillusioned” with Manchester United, and will therefore seek a ‘change of scenery’ in the next summer transfer market, despite having renewed his contract less than a year and a half ago, until June 2027 (with another year as an option).
The Portuguese international, it can be said, does not agree with the sporting direction that the club is following, in particular, with regard to the constant changes of coach. This, after compatriot Ruben Amorim, acquired from Sporting in exchange for a fee of around 11 million euros, had only lasted 14 months in the position, before being fired and replaced, on an interim basis, by Michael Carrick.
In this sense, it can be read, the midfielder will seek sporting… and financial guarantees, that is, through a contract renewal proposal that makes his current salary, of 375 thousand pounds (432.3 thousand euros) per week, ‘shoot’ to 400 thousand pounds (461.1 thousand euros) per week, which would make him the highest paid player in the entire team.
Currently, this status belongs to the Brazilian Casemiro, who, however, has already made it known that he will not remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of the current 2025/26 season, when the link between both parties ends, which will end up significantly relieving the squad’s salary bill.
Furthermore, the publication adds, the former Sporting player will only admit to committing to the Red Devils when they reveal who will be the man chosen to lead the main team next season. This, despite being impressed with Michael Carrick’s working methods.
Another potential ‘weapon’ to hold it back would be to guarantee qualification for the Champions League, which, at this moment, appears to be a real possibility, given that Manchester United occupies fourth place in the Premier League (the last one that gives access to the competition), with 38 points won after 23 rounds.
Saudi Arabia remains ‘on the lookout’
At 31 years old, Bruno Fernandes knows he only has one opportunity left to secure the biggest contract of his career. Something that could happen at Manchester United… or in Saudi Arabia, a destiny with which he continues to be associated, with several advances and setbacks in between.
The Middle Eastern country will have already started to survey the closed season in search of potential ‘heavyweights’ who are capable of circumventing the media disruption that will inevitably be caused when Cristiano Ronaldo chooses to leave Al Nassr, the club with which he has a contract valid until June 2027.
Bruno Fernandes is one of the names on the list, after, about a year ago, he publicly admitted that he had the opportunity to reinforce Al Hilal. An opportunity that, however, he ended up turning down, even though it would make him one of the highest paid footballers on the planet.
