Bruges Fans Stranded in Kazakhstan: ‘Borat’ Fallout

Three Walloon supporters of Club Brugge are currently still being held in a cell in Kazakhstan. They will be released on Sunday and can then return to Belgium on Monday. Possibly the fright of their lives.

During the match, they suddenly took out the iconic bright green Borat swimsuit, despite the freezing cold, and showed it off in the visitors’ section. This was seen as a major insult by the security forces in Kazakhstan.

They did not see it as humor and arrested the three Walloon fans of Club Brugge during the match, after which a judge immediately gave them an administrative detention of no less than five days and thus missed their plane on Friday.

They will be released on Sunday and can then return to Belgium on Monday. According to a friend – Mathieu – who was also there and has now been able to fly back to our country without his three friends – they are doing well.

Three men are doing well

“I was not allowed to see them myself today, but an employee of the Belgian embassy visited them. They are in one cell together and are doing well,” Mathieu said about the case against The Importance of Limburg.

“We have already paid their fines – just under 20 euros for each of them – and we have also done shopping to provide them with basic necessities such as toilet paper, water and laundry supplies,” he concluded.
