Broberg Signs with Blues: 6-Year Contract Details

Philip Broberg signs a six-year contract with St. Louis Blues. The agreement is worth 8 million dollars per season – the club announced this on Saturday.

– It is exciting to have him here for more than six more years, it really takes him through his best years. “He’s been one of the few bright spots this season that hasn’t gone at all like we expected,” Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said.

The 24-year-old, who will play at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina 2026 for Sweden, has scored 14 points (2+12) in 44 games this season, his second for the Blues. On August 20, 2024, he signed a two-year contract with the Blues after the Edmonton Oilers did not match the Blues’ offer sheet. After this season, the defender could have become a restricted free agent.

Broberg’s first season in the Blues included a personal best 68 games, eight goals, 21 assists, 29 points and plus-21 in the plus/minus statistics. He was selected by Edmonton in the first round (8 overall) in 2019 and has totaled 56 points (12+44) in 194 regular season games and five points (3+2) in 27 playoff games.

– He is a player at the back that we can build around. He is currently in our box play, the five-on-five game and gets a bit more power play, which I think he will see more of as time goes on. It’s a real cornerstone on the back side that it’s nice to have ready, says Armstrong.

On Saturday night, Broberg had to step off the Blues’ 2-4 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights already in the first period. Broberg played only 55 seconds.

– It is unlucky to lose Borberg. He was ready to play. The team was happy for him after the extension became public, says Blues coach Jim Montgomery.

– He is fine. We’ll see day-by-day here and how he responds tomorrow.
