Brandon Aiyuk: Leaving the 49ers – Explained

Where will Brandon Aiyuk play next season?

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch hinted Wednesday that he will not return to the team for the upcoming campaign.

“I think we can go ahead and say that he played his last game with the 49ers,” Lynch said.

Aiyuk has not played this season while recovering from a severe knee injury.

The situation with the team has been talked about in recent years. Head coach Kyle Shanahan even suggested that the receiver has been “distant” since his injury in relation to his involvement with the team.

Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract ahead of the 2024 campaign. If he were to be released before the 1is June, an amount of $29.6 million would affect the team’s payroll. After this date, such a decision would allow the amount to be extended over two seasons.

In five seasons with the 49ers, Aiyuk played in 69 games. He scored 25 touchdowns and amassed 4,305 yards.
