The contribution of US$ 50 million (R$ 264 million at current prices) cited by John Textor expected to enter the accounts of the SAF do Botafogo in the coming days is actually seen more as a loan, and at very high interest ratesaccording to the newspaper “O Globo” this Monday (26/1).
According to the report, the contribution would be US$20 million (R$105.6 million) initially and another US$30 million (R$158.4 million) in the following weeks. However, interest could double that $50 million in just about four months.
Still according to “O Globo”, although John Textor said that this money could open the way for new investors – who are his former partners in FuboTV – become shareholders of SAF, giving up part of the 90% he holds, in the contract what is stipulated is that they would be given player sales as payment guarantees.
“There are, at SAF, those who see this as normal based on the assumption that negotiating players is already part of the DNA of the project set up by Textor. Furthermore, there is the argument that the choice of who would be sold would come from the black and white football department, as usual. On the other hand, there are also those who point to this path as being contrary to the austerity that the SAF has been trying to pursue recently.“, says the article.
The report in the newspaper “O Globo” ends by stating that, due to all these uncertainties, the contribution – or loan, which would be used, among other things, to pay the transfer ban – it can’t happen again.
