Borjan Tackle: Saudi Pro League Incident

A very controversial incident took place during the match of the 14th round of the Saudi Arabian Football League between Al-Riyadh and Al-Fajha. Former SK Slovan Bratislava goalkeeper Milan Borjan was part of it.

After a moment near the guests’ goal, the Canadian goalkeeper sharply tackled his teammate Teddy Okou. He did not give in, so Borjan hit him with the head.

The situation escalated quickly when other Al-Riyadh players joined the game, but the goalkeeper was not “in his senses” and hit the team captain Yoann Barbet directly in the face, who tried to calm the Canadian down.

The referee surprisingly decided not to punish Borjan with a yellow card. It is questionable whether it was just one specific situation from the meeting, or whether there are problems between the players of a long-term nature.

The match eventually ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to Barbet’s stoppage time goal in the second half.

Al-Fajha is doing better in the table, which is in 11th place, while Al-Riyadh is up to 15th. It has only one point in front of the three rungs guaranteeing relegation to a lower competition.
