Hein Vanhaezebrouck has made his choice for the award of ‘Best Belgian Abroad’. According to the former head coach, Jeremy Doku deserves this recognition. In addition, Alexis Saelemaekers receives an honorable mention from Vanhaezebrouck.
The well-known Belgian trainer explains his choice for Doku: “He wins for me because of the evolution he has undergone at Manchester City. We have been saying for a long time that he has to bring more than just sticking to the sidelines. And he is now suddenly doing that,” Vanhaezebrouck tells Sporza.
He emphasizes that it was not easy for Doku to prove himself at the English top club. “Moreover, in a year in which he had to compete with top players such as Marmoush and Cherki. Doku simply won that battle.”
In addition to Doku, Saelemaekers also receives praise from Vanhaezebrouck. “He confirms it for the umpteenth time. He proves himself again and again when he changes clubs: at Bologna, AS Roma, and now he is also held in high regard by AC Milan.”
This season, Doku made seventeen appearances in the Premier League, in which he was good for one goal and five assists. The Belgian with Ghanaian roots currently has a market value of 65 million euros and played 39 international matches for the Red Devils, scoring seven times.
