The defeat against St. Gall was another reminder that Anderlecht has its work cut out for the second part of the season. Besnik Hasi is waiting for reinforcements but is being realistic.
The six victories in a row recorded at the end of the autumn gave new impetus to Anderlecht. But before the break, Sporting only won one of its four matches. This afternoon, the Mauves bit the dust against the Swiss St. Gall (1-2).
A friendly game which particularly exposed the Mauves’ shortcomings in attack. Adriano Bertaccini and Thorgan Hazard alternated as the most advanced man on the board, without much success.
Mihajlo Cvetković was more inspired by scoring during his rise to the game, well launched in depth by Enric Llansana: “He does what we expect of a young striker, but he is not a pure pivot either”, explains Hasi after the match, quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws.
A point of attachment, the missing link
The equation must also take into account the profile ofAdriano Bertaccini : “He needs space and a point of contact to be dangerous. He’s a goalscorer, but not a pure attacker. That explains the problem.” The lack of a true number nine is more noticeable than ever: “We have no backup plan, because no player in front is capable of keeping the ball.”
Reinforcement should therefore arrive…but probably not immediately: “First of all, players must leave and the squad must be reduced. I don’t expect a new striker before the end of January,” breathes Hasi. “The only positive point is the World Cup which is approaching in June. Some players could be looking for playing time to maintain their chances of being selected. We could perhaps take advantage of that,” he concludes.
