Rui Costa and José Mourinho, president and coach of Benfica, respectively, guaranteed that it was not a punishment, but the squad spent the night at Seixal after the defeat with SC Braga (1-3) in the Allianz Cup and even worked.
Coach and players woke up early, even after the late trip back to Seixal (Benfica will have left Leiria very close to midnight), and Mourinho led a work session of which little is known yet.
At the start of the game against SC Braga, it was known that Samuel Soares, Bah, Joshua Wynder, António Silva, Barrenechea, João Veloso, Nuno Félix, Bruma and Lukebakio did not have the physical or clinical conditions to go to the game, but regarding possible recovery and the presence of someone on the field this morning, no information was provided.
Benfica’s plan was, naturally, to reach the final of the Allianz Cup and, in this sense, it was decided that the squad would spend the night in Seixal. The elimination did not lead to a change in plans, even without the final to be played this Saturday. The next match is, therefore, with FC Porto, at Dragão, for the Portuguese Cup, on Wednesday.
