In the summer of 2024, Bayer Leverkusen transferred 15 million euros to Stade Rennes for the defensive talent Jeanuël Belocian. The youngster was an anticipation of the future and should be carefully built up in coach Xabi Alonso’s championship team at the time. However, in January of last year, the development came to a halt due to a torn cruciate ligament.
The French U21 international fought back and made his comeback in the fall. But under the new coach Kasper Hjulmand, Belocian doesn’t play a big role and wasn’t even nominated for the Champions League squad recently. A Bundesliga competitor sees his chance. According to the ‘Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung’, VfL wants to strike Wolfsburg and lure Belocian to the Autostadt.
Belocian is looking for match practice
The Lower Saxony team is desperately looking for reinforcements for the defense, Belocian can defend on the inside and on the left and urgently needs match practice. VfL is discussing internally about signing the youngster, who could compensate for the loss of Joakim Maehle (28/shoulder injury).
There will also be a new addition for central defense. Here, however, Wolfsburg is particularly interested in Josip Sutalo (25) from Ajax Amsterdam. He is no longer first choice at the Eredivisie club and, according to the report, will be allowed to leave the club in the winter.
