The Belarus national football team has a new head coach. His candidacy was officially approved on January 6 at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Belarusian Football Federation (ABFF).
The coaching staff of Belarusian football players will now be headed by Viktor Goncharenko.
Viktor Goncharenko in the past played for such Belarusian clubs as Minsk RUOR and Borisov BATE. His team record includes two Belarusian champion titles (1999, 2002), two silvers (1998, 2000) and one bronze (2001).
In 2002, at the age of 25, he had to end his playing career due to a serious injury received in training – a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee joint. After this, Goncharenko refocused on being a coach and at various times coached BATE Borisov, as well as numerous Russian clubs (Kuban, Ural, Ufa, CSKA, Krasnodar and Paris Nizhny Novgorod). He was recognized as the best coach of Belarus 11 times. ****
Chairman of the Football Federation Yevgeny Buloichik, commenting on the new appointment, called Goncharenko “the most famous coach” of Belarus. A contract was signed with him for four years.
Let us remind you that Goncharenko replaced the Spanish specialist Carlos Alos Ferrer as head coach. He left his post in December last year, having worked for almost 2 years. Under his leadership, the national team played 26 matches: 6 victories, 10 draws and 10 defeats.
By the way, this year football was once again not included in the list of priority sports to which the state plans to give priority attention (and therefore funding).
