Barcelona: El Clásico & Super Cup Victory!

FC Barcelona players defended their championship in the Spanish Super Cup.

In Sunday’s final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, they defeated their rival Real Madrid 3:2 in “El Clásico” after a drama and won the trophy for a record sixteen times.

Raphinha scored two goals, he scored the winner in the 73rd minute.

In the second “classic” in the current season, Barcelona returned the October league loss of 1:2 to Real from Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid. Last season, the Blaugranas were successful in all four matches against Real.

Last year, they beat him 5:2 in the Super Cup final, also on Saudi soil. The Catalan team has already extended its winning streak in all competitions to ten matches. Real still has 13 triumphs in the history of the domestic Super Cup.

The course of the match

I. half:

The first half of Sunday’s hit was only scored at the end. In the 36th minute, Raphinha sent Barcelona into the lead, entering the penalty area and opening the scoring with a low left-footed shot past Tchouameni to the far post.

Three goals then fell in quick succession in added time. Vinicius first, after a great individual action from the middle of the field, went from the left side through the opponent’s defenders and equalized at 1:1.

Just two minutes later, Lewandowski restored the lead for Barcelona when Pedri found him with a cross and the Polish gunner lobbed past Courtois.

Even before the break, Gonzalo Garcia was able to erase the deficit – after a corner, Huijsen’s header was pushed out by Raphinha for the construction of the goal, but Garcia acrobatically fell off the crossbar to equalize at 2:2.

II. half time:

The decision was made in the 73rd minute, when Raphinha’s shot from the edge of the penalty area was unfortunately missed by Raul Asencio and goalkeeper Courtois was helpless.

Real could no longer respond, although gunner Mbappe entered the game after a knee injury in the final quarter.

For a foul, he still saw a red card from Frenkie de Jong, and then Carreras and Raul Asencio threw away a “tututo” to equalize.

Barcelona defended the Super Cup as the first team since 2011, even then its players did it. In the semi-finals of this year’s edition, the Catalans eliminated Athletic Bilbao 5-0, when Raphinha also scored two goals. In the second semi-final, Real beat Atletico 2:1 in the city derby.
