The Municipal Stadium of Baní was the scene of the regional baseball clinic for children aged 8 to 10, a training initiative that brought together 230 children from the provinces of Pedernales, Barahona, Independencia, Bahoruco, Azua, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Elías Piña and Peravia.
The activity, the first of four similar ones in various regions of the country, was organized by the Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom), the management of the Dominican team heading to the World Baseball Classic and Major League Baseball (MLB) as part of its community outreach and sports legacy program, in an initiative that seeks to directly impact new generations by teaching values, discipline and fundamentals of the game.
The clinic, held at the Luis María Herrera stadium under the hot southern sun, had the participation of prominent sports authorities, leaders and historical figures of baseball, who shared their experiences and knowledge with the young baseball players of the region.
During the day, the children participated in technical stations, game dynamics and an exciting Home Run Derby, in an environment of learning, motivation and healthy coexistence.
The event was headed by Juan Núñez, president of the Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedobe); Kelvin Cruz, Minister of Sports; Nelson Cruz, the general manager of the Dominican team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Miguel Matos, director of the MLB office in the Dominican Republic and Henry González, director of MLB International Operations.
“With this activity we fulfill one of the purposes of our federation,” said Núñez. The renowned Banilejo baseball players Rafael Landestoy, Miguel Tejada and Cristian Guzmán supported the training initiative.
