The Bassin Bagnolais de Sport Adapté continues to work on inclusion and wishes to repeat meetings with ordinary clubs. In terms of results, the association continues to win medals with seven podiums including a French badminton champion title in November.
This is the objective stated by the Bagnolais Adapted Sports Pool (BBSA), increase meetings with ordinary clubs to promote inclusion. For several years, the association has already succeeded in launching its project. “We worked a lot with the Gaujac Football Club, with whom we were able to mix teams. We also met the Saint-Julien-de-Peyrolas pétanque club which had itself asked us, and obviously the UBB (Union Bouliste Bagnolaise). For its part, the Bagnolais handball club (HBGR) provided two coaches to train adapted sports players.“, emphasizes Gilles Fernandez, one of the BBSA educators with Philippe Morel.
At the same time, the BBSA continues to impress in adapted sports competitions. In November, seven athletes from the association finished on the podium at the French badminton championships which took place in Mulhouse, only a year and a half after creating the section. “Justine and Carine even won the women’s doubles title. It’s super positive for a first, we were able to evaluate ourselves with the best“, adds Gilles Fernandez.
In the other disciplines accessible within the association, the futsal team competed in the regional championships and qualified for the French championships which will take place the weekend of January 10 in Besançon. The handball team won the regional championships in Pont-St-Esprit on the weekend of December 14. For the rest, the pétanque and 7-a-side football competitions will take place in January, while the regional tennis championships will take place a little later, in April.
“This allows them to maintain a social connection”
Coming from different homes (the Agarrus in Bagnols, Marie Durand in Laudun and Lou Ventabren in Pont-St-Esprit), ESAT (La Chartreuse-de-Valbonne and ESAT Véronique), or the UPSR (Psychiatric Rehabilitation Care Unit) Château de Coulorgues, the members of the BBSA take advantage of physical activity to let off steam. “This allows them to maintain a social connection but also with the outside world. Then, when they leave the UPSR (after 6 months or a year), they have kept their physical capacities”explains Marion, adapted physical activity teacher at Château de Coulorgues.
Most of the UPSR patients who practiced a sporting activity with the BBSA during their treatment, continue to go there once their treatment has ended. “Some become friends and even see each other outside“, concludes Gilles Fernandez.
