BUKIT JALIL: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun kept Malaysia’s men’s doubles challenge alive after both pairs advanced to the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open on Thursday (Jan 8) in contrasting styles.
At the Axiata Arena, second seeds Aaron-Wooi Yik were made to work hard by China’s Chen Xujun-Liu Yang, battling for 62 minutes before sealing a 21-14, 14-21, 21-14 win.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun, however, enjoyed a more comfortable outing, cruising past Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita 21-9, 21-15 in just 29 minutes.
The two victories came as a timely boost for the Malaysian camp after several representatives had fallen earlier, with only mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei having progressed before this.
