New Year often rhymes with good resolutions, very often sporting ones. We sign up for the gym or start running with brand new shoes. Then, a few days later – or even a few weeks for the bravest – these good intentions are quickly forgotten.
However, the BCBG players prove once again that they are exceptional athletes. Their good resolutions? Beautify the podiums. They didn’t wait more than two weeks to find their way back to competition.
So it was on January 10, while Lozère was shivering, that they went to Mende for the youth and veterans tournament, the first of the year.
The morning started strong with the entry of the young cadets.
Series 1: Guillemette Dumortier knew how to do well. After a good run, she lost in the final and finished in a fortunate second place in a very tough series.
Series 2: Anaïs Daudé, committed and serious throughout the tournament, wins.
In the afternoon, the BCBG was not left out with the youngest series:
• Éléa Sanchez wins series 1 after some great matches.
• Célian Guirao-Mazel takes the first step of the podium in series 2.
• Charlotte Huet, in mini-bad and for whom this was the first tournament, put in a great performance by finishing second in series 2.
• Stef Dorts offers the club a sixth podium by finishing second in the junior category.
The club also congratulates Lucie Martin, Astrid Dumortier, Emma Bringer, Camille Huet, Chloé Huet, Ézéchiel Dumortier, Dorian Guirao-Mazel and Celyan Szczepansky for their participation.
Veterans speak from experience
Let’s agree right away: when we hear about veterans, we too often imagine players of a respectable age, far from the level of the youngest. This is not the case in badminton. Drawing on their experience, these players offer a fast and powerful game, combining finesse, strength and intelligence: the prerogative of experience, some would say.
In the series 1 women’s doubles category, Stéphanie Attrazic and Carine Malaval reached the highest step of the podium after a flawless performance.
It is also a first place for Yannick Brès and his Mendois partner Olivier Lamolle in men’s doubles series 2.
Finally, as the adage goes “never two without three”, Vincent Serruys, accompanied by his partner Geoffrey de Saint-Flour, climbed onto the podium with a fine second place.
Nine podiums in one day: the year is off to a perfect start for BCBG!
