Badminton, Business & Education: Lessons in Discipline | Revati Devasthale

From the badminton court 🏸 to the boardroom 📈 to the classroom 🎓

The court was my first classroom. As a competitive badminton player representing India, I learned discipline through relentless training, resilience through wins and losses and decision-making under pressure when every point mattered. Reading opponents, adapting strategy mid-game and executing with composure built a mindset grounded in focus, accountability and performance.

These lessons translated seamlessly into the boardroom at Cushman & Wakefield. Strategic thinking honed on court informed deal structuring and negotiations; endurance developed through sport supported long transaction cycles and a commitment to preparation, feedback and continuous improvement shaped how I approached leadership, collaboration and execution.

Now, as I prepare to step into the classroom at INSEAD this January, I look forward to sharpening these experiences through structured learning — pairing execution with strategy and learning alongside a global cohort.

I am deeply grateful to Saurabh Shatdal, Rohit Goyal, Saurabh Bakliwal, Sudhir Gaikwad and Virang Gandhi for their mentorship, trust and unwavering support at Cushman & Wakefield.

From aspiring to compete at the Singapore Open Badminton Championship to returning to Singapore to pursue an MBA at INSEAD — onwards.
