Sport

Since last year there has been a regional association for badminton in Burgenland again. The aim is to make the Olympic sport more popular in the country. A driving force here is former Olympian Luka Wraber.

Five clubs are currently members of the Burgenland regional badminton association. One of them is the ASKÖ Badminton Eisenstadt. Wraber is the club’s chairman and above all wants to get more children interested in the sport. Wraber explained that he competed for Burgenland for the last six years of his career and then had the goal of giving something back. He helps to build something in Burgenland on a voluntary basis.

The former Iranian junior champion Mehran Shabazi also wants to pass on the enthusiasm for badminton to children and young people. He helps out with training and dreams of Oylmpia – as part of the Refugees team. As far as popular sport is concerned, the next step is to be taken in 2026 with a badminton league competition.
