Audi F1: First 2026 Car Test Revealed

The German manufacturer, which has taken over the team from Sauber and is entering the premier class of motorsport as a full factory team this season, used a so-called ‘filming day’ on the circuit in Barcelona, images of which have been leaked.

All Formula 1 teams are allowed to cover 200 kilometers in their own test sessions twice a year. The term film day comes from shooting promotional material, but these test days are also the perfect opportunity to test out the new cars. In addition to the limited number of kilometers, only specific test tires may be used.

The Audi R26, where drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto both took the wheel according to various media, was completely in black so as not to reveal any details. Media were not welcome, the images were taken secretly. However, elements of the updated regulations can be seen, such as the front and rear wings.

The car used on the filming day is a prototype and will look different as the season progresses. In the past, Audi has achieved success with hybrid technology in, among others, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Dakar Rally.

The first official test week for all teams starts on January 26, also in Barcelona. Even then, no press is welcome. More teams will most likely start filming days in the coming weeks.

The new Formula 1 season starts in March with the Australian Grand Prix (race is on March 8). The Zandvoort GP, this year on August 23, is the last time on the calendar for the time being.
