According to the schedule released by ATP, Vietnam is scheduled to host the ATP Challenger 50 Phan Thiet tournament from January 19 to January 25. Shortly thereafter, another Challenger 50 competition will be held in Phan Thiet from January 26 to February 1. Both competitions are likely to be held at the international standard stadium complex in the NovaWorld area.
The ATP Challenger Tour is the ATP Tour’s lower league system and plays an important role in the points accumulation and ranking progression roadmap for young tennis players or players looking for a chance to return to the top level of the playing group. Vietnam’s hosting of the Challenger League for the second time in a row is considered a notable step forward in efforts to restore the domestic professional tennis scene.
Previously, at the end of 2025, the Phan Thiet Stadium complex successfully hosted the ITF World Tennis Tour Series for both men and women, laying the foundation for its continued upgrade to tournaments belonging to the ATP system. This shows that the organizational capabilities, facilities and professional conditions of Vietnamese tennis are gradually meeting international standards.

Holding a challenger tournament in the country is of great significance to Vietnamese tennis players. Instead of expensive trips to other countries in the region or Europe, domestic players will have more opportunities to play, gain experience and rack up points in their home stadium under familiar conditions.
In the past, Vietnam tennis has hosted ITF tournaments in Tay Ninh and some challenger tournaments in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. However, due to various reasons, these tournaments did not last long. The lack of international venues in the country is believed to be one of the reasons why Vietnamese players have struggled with their development, especially in venues such as the Davis Cup.
Recently, Vietnamese tennis has faced quite a few challenges as the country’s No. 1 player, Lee Hoang Nam, has turned to professional pickleball. At SEA Games 33, Vietnamese tennis failed to win a medal for the first time since 2015, reflecting the absence of a high-level successor force.
Against this background, Bu Bu Minh Duc is considered the most promising player in Vietnamese men’s tennis. Over the past two years, the tennis player born in 2000 has continued to play in international competitions in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, India and Europe to build up experience and scores. At the end of the 2025 season, Min Deuk impressed with a positive result at the Kuala Lumpur M15 competition.
As the defending national champion, Minh Duc is particularly likely to participate in both ATP Challenger events in Phan Thiet. This is seen as an important opportunity for this tennis player to test his professional abilities against opponents of higher rank and level, and open new hopes for Vietnamese tennis in the future.
