Bern’s salons in Stockholm were the scene of the Atea Athletics Gala 2026. There, prizes were handed out to Athletics Sweden’s biggest stars, and here you can read about who took home the awards for, among other things, the year’s achievements in the national team, Folksam Grand Prix and Finnkampen.

Glitter, glamor and athletics in one lovely mix – it’s the Atea Athletics Gala 2026. Awards were given for Performance of the Year in the national team, Performance of the Year at Finnkampen, Performance of the Year at the Folksam Grand Prix, Performance of the Year at the Athletics SM and Junior National Team Association of the Year. Last but not least, the Athlete of the Year was also presented.

Performance of the year in the Folksam Grand Prix

Nominees: Andreas Almgren, Wictor Petersson, Henrik Larsson; Vanessa Kamga, Moa Granat, Fanny Roos.

Winner: Andreas Almgren and Vanessa Kamga.

Andreas Almgren (3000 metres), Turebergs FK
In front of the home crowd at Sollentunavallen, Andreas Almgren improved his own Swedish record in the 3000 meters. In 7:31.42, he won the race by almost three seconds, bettering the record by the same margin.

Vanessa Kamga (discus), Hässelby SK
Vanessa Kamga performed at an absolute top level in all Folksam Grand Prix competitions. The highlight came in Gothenburg, where she set a Swedish record with 65.67. She was also over 64 meters in both Varberg and Sollentuna.

This year’s performance in Finnkampen

Nominees: 4×100 team (Filip Olsson and Zion Eriksson (pictured), Linus Pihl, Jean-Christian Zirignon), Sigge Bergentz, Daniel Ståhl; Alice Magnell Millán, Vanessa Kamga, Maja Åskag.

The quartet held the only Swedish Finnkamp record on the men’s side during the 100th anniversary. The time of 39.07 was the best time by a Swedish relay team in 28 years and was enough to win over Finland, who came in at 39.44.

Alice Magnell Millán (800 metres), Tjalve
First-year senior Alice Magnell Millán accounted for one of the most surprising and gratifying victories of the competition. The 20-year-old beat a strong starting field with several WC participants and ran to the finish line in a new personal best of 2:02.78.

Nominees: Wictor Petersson, Oskar Edlund, Daniel Ståhl; Vera Sjöberg, Julia Henriksson, Fanny Roos.

Winner: Wictor Petersson and Vera Sjöberg.

At the indoor WC in Växjö, Wictor Petersson improved the Swedish shot put record that had stood for 40 years. 21.49 was 24 centimeters longer than Sören Tallhem’s previous record and Wictor had another bump over the old record in his series. He also won the SM in Karlstad with the new SM record 20.90.

Vera Sjöberg (1500 & 5000 meters), Täby IS
Vera Sjöberg was responsible for a magical double at the SM in Karlstad. In the 1500 meters she led a fast race from start to finish and won in the new SC record and personal best 4:05.09. Even in the 5000 meters, there was both a championship and personal record with 15:25.80.

Armand Duplantis took the third consecutive WC gold of his career after completing the world record height of 6.30 in front of the crowd at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. The Swede was pressured by the Greek Emmanouil Karalis, who managed 6.00 and was there all the way up to 6.20. In the end, Duplantis took a clear victory thanks be his world record.

In the WC final in the discus, Vanessa Kamga hit the Swedish record twice again. In the fifth round, the discus landed at 65.95 and in the final throw she extended the record to 66.61. The result was enough for a fourth place and the best Swedish WC placement for a woman since 2013.
