Aston Villa: Emery Clash & Player Exit?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Aston Villa coach Unai Emery went viral when he threw a tantrum, glared at and pushed his own player, Youri Tielemans when the player ran off the field during a substitution situation in the Europa League, Thursday (22/1) evening local time or Friday (23/1) early morning WIB.

Aston Villa successfully qualified for the last 16 of the 2026 Europa League after beating Fenerbahce 1-0 at the Chobani Fenerbahce Stadium, Friday (23/1) early morning WIB.

Aston Villa’s only goal was scored by Jadon Sancho in the 25th minute. However, a unique incident occurred in the 90+2 minute when Aston Villa coach Unai Emery suddenly became furious with his player, namely Youri Tielemans.

This situation occurred when Tielemans ran to the side of the field when he was about to be replaced by George Hemmings. Tielemans himself was warned by the referee with a yellow card in the 88th minute for stalling.

Because of this, perhaps Tielemans chose not to waste any more time when he was replaced by Hemmings. Tielemans ran quickly to the edge of the field, but it turned out that Tielemans’ action provoked Unai Emery’s emotions.

Emery didn’t seem to like it because Tielemens ran hastily to the sidelines when he was replaced by his partner.

When confronted with Tielemans, Emery refused to shake hands. Then the trainer cursed Tielemans, and pushed him roughly.

When met after the match, Emery gave his response to the incident. Emery only said that Tielemans was like his own son.

“He is like my son,” said Emery, quoted by Talk Sports.
