The Arizona Diamondbacks got their hands on third baseman from the St. Louis Cardinals Nolan Arenado.
The 34-year-old has two years remaining on his eight-year, $260 million deal he signed in 2019, then with the Colorado Rockies.
The Cardinals will pay 31 of the $42 million remaining on the veteran’s contract.
The Diamondbacks sent right-handed pitcher Jack Martinez to the Cardinals, who had been an 8th round pick in the 2025 draft.
In 2025, Arenado posted a .237 batting average, hit 12 home runs and drove in 57 runs, with an OPS of .666.
“We are grateful to Nolan for his five years with the Cardinals, on and off the field, for his drive, his competitiveness and for all the memories he left us,” Chaim Bloom, Cardinals president of baseball operations, said in a statement.
“As we continue to move forward, we are pleased to add another promising pitcher to our organization, and we are excited about the opportunity this move provides for several of our players to stand out and further establish themselves at the MLB level. »
Arenado, a ten-time Gold Glove winner, has a .282 batting average and 353 home runs in 13 seasons with the Cardinals and Rockies.
For his part, Martinez, a product of Arizona State University, was selected in the eighth round by the Dbacks in 2025.
