Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is bothered by a ligament injury in his left hand that could require surgery and sideline him for several months, reports Shams Charania of the ESPN network.
An MRI performed Friday revealed the injury Davis suffered in the road loss to the Utah Jazz. Reportedly, Davis will seek a second opinion to determine if surgery is necessary.
If Davis and the Mavs choose not to pursue surgery, he will have to sit out at least six weeks.
The Mavs are actively exploring the trade market for Davis as the Feb. 5 deadline approaches.
Injuries have limited Davis to just 29 games since arriving in Dallas last February.
Davis missed 14 games in November this season with a strained left calf, an absence that was extended when Mavs Governor Patrick Dumont refused to approve Davis’ return until medical examinations indicated there was no risk of aggravating the injury. Davis missed two more games after suffering a mild adductor strain during the Mavs’ loss to the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day.
Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 20 games this season.
