– JAÉN CITY COUNCIL
JAÉN Jan. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Andalusian Archery Championship is being held this weekend in Jaén with 177 athletes, which represents a “historical record in this competition throughout the community.”
The Las Fuentezuelas facilities will host these competitions in a recurve and compound bow room in the categories ranging from pre-benjamin to plus 50 and the bow and health modality, as specified in its presentation.
The president of the Andalusian Archery Federation, Antonio Cuenca, has highlighted the achievement of having the highest participation in this type of tournament in the history of the community, breaking the record that Cádiz had had since 2025 with 174 by three archers:
“There will be 177 archers in Jaén and more than twenty technicians with an outstanding fact that reflects that archery has a future and that means that more than 50 percent of the participating archers are under 21 years old,” he declared.
The Councilor for Sports, Beatriz López, has expressed her satisfaction at “verifying the increasing popularity of disciplines that are, a priori, more minority.” “Beyond the sporting aspect, in addition, the competition will attract hundreds of people including goalkeepers, technicians and the public, which will mean an important economic return,” he stated.
He has also referred to its social aspect, consolidating “a project as beautiful and as wonderful as Flechas Rosas, with no less than 20 participants, including archers who suffer from lymphedema and those who compete, but do not suffer from the disease.”
For his part, the president of the Santa Catalina Archery Club of Jaén, Javier Medina, has assessed that this event reflects the “ability to value the city of Jaén” through this sport, as already happened with “the successful Andalusians of 2022 and 2024, and with the Spanish Absolute Indoor Championship two years ago.”
The organization has established trophies and medals for the top four finishers in each category. The activity will begin around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, then there will be a break and will resume in the afternoon. It will conclude on Sunday at noon.
