The veterans of UD Almería and FC Barcelona provided a match full of technical quality, in a solidarity event in favor of 4 NGOs
Almería paid a well-deserved tribute, yesterday afternoon, to Guillermo Blanes, linked to sport and one of the great protectors of Almería football. The Mediterranean Games Stadium dressed up with more than 8,000 fans to applaud one of the driving forces behind the growth of football in the city, and did so with a top-notch match between the veterans of UD Almería and FC Barcelona. 1-1 was the result, the least of it, on an afternoon in which the technical quality of the players was enjoyed and the affection of the people of Almeria was offered to Guillermo Blanes.
Representatives of society and sport gathered at the Stadium. The mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, was supporting the honoree and stated that “Guillermo Blanes has demonstrated throughout his life his passion for sport, as a businessman and sports leader, decisively contributing to the growth of football and the creation of UD Almería. The city of Almería is very grateful to him and from the City Council we want to contribute to this tribute and thank him for everything he has done for the city.” The president of the Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Almería, among other authorities, also attended.
Guillermo Blanes was especially excited, accompanied by his family, the Almería and FC Barcelona supporters clubs, and society as a whole. The tribute match had a solidarity component, since it was beneficial to the Association of Children with Cancer of Almería Argar, the Astea Autism Association, the Nazaret Center and the Poco Frecuente Foundation.
As for the match, it allowed us to see players again on the field who have marked an era at UD Almería, such as Chico Flores, Alex Vidal, Kalu Uche, Mané, Piatti and Paco Luna, among others. On the part of FC Barcelona, talents like Urbano, Roberto and Esteban Vigo. Mané scored for UD Almería in the first half and Jordi for F Barcelona.
An afternoon to remember and to pay the well-deserved tribute of all of Almería to Guillermo Blanes.
