Almer on Inter’s Win: Experience & Routine Key

Inter Milan ended the league phase of the UEFA Champions League with a win.

The Serie A club gets a late 2-0 win at Borussia Dortmund. Federico Dimarco puts the guests in the lead with a direct free kick (81′), Andy Diouf puts the lid on it with a goal in stoppage time (90’+4).

For Robert Almer, it was the Italians’ experience that ultimately made the difference in the CANAL+ studio: “Perhaps you can say that age and routine were crucial. In the end, they were more hardened in the situations where you hold the ball at the corner flag, play for time, provoke things a bit. And to me they also seemed fitter.”

Inter still doesn’t make it into the top eight

TSV Hartberg coach Manfred Schmid also sounds the same: “If you saw the game system: Dortmund had to invest a lot more, Inter defended very cleverly. That is of course a burden for Dortmund. You saw with Dimarco’s goal that they then fell apart and were at the end of their strength.”

However, it did very little for the guests: Inter finished the league phase in tenth place. A duel with Bodö/Glimt or Benfica awaits in the playoff for the knockout phase. Dortmund ends up in 17th place after the defeat.
