Algeria AFCON: Last-Gasp Win Sends Desert Foxes to Quarters

Algeria is in the quarter-finals of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The team from North Africa beat the DR Congo in Rabat 1-0 after extra time, with substitute Adil Boulbina scoring the gold goal.

Algeria is the dominant team in the game, but the DR Congo puts up a good fight and also has scoring opportunities.

After 90 minutes, the game goes into extra time goalless. This is extremely hectic with many changes of possession. Substitute Bounedjah (101st) and Wolfsburg striker Amoura (109th) have the best chances.

Now Nigeria is waiting

When everything was actually set up for the penalty shootout, Adil Boulbina scored to make it 1-0 (119′). The 22-year-old flicks the ball from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner, leaving Congo goalkeeper Mpasi-Nzau no chance.

In the quarter-finals, Algeria will now face title favorites Nigeria. The “Super Eagles” confidently won their round of 16 game against Mozambique 4-0.

Austria will also face Algeria at the 2026 World Cup in North America. The North Africans complete Group J alongside Argentina and Jordan.

Ivory Coast continues confidently

Ivory Coast pulls no punches against Burkina Faso and wins 3-0.

Amad Diallo (20th), Yan Diomande (32nd) and Bazoumana Toure (87th) score for the defending champions.

Egypt is now waiting in the quarterfinals.
