Busy start to the year for soccer player Alexis Zapata, who was involved in a controversial event that went viral on social networks. According to reports, there was an incident in the department of Antioquia, where a fire was caused in a property by a balloon loaded with gunpowder.
The controversy came through social networks, as the player was accused of being one of the supposed people responsible for what happened. However, through an official statement, Alexis denied the rumors and clarified the situation.
“In recent days, a video of me has been spread out of context. I want to clarify that at no time did I participate, promote or support any risky practice. During my vacation in Medellín I was only a spectator of a situation that occurred near my house, without intervening in any way,” he initially said.
Later, Zapata clarified that the video “was taken and published by other pages without my authorization, using my name irresponsibly and attributing to me a responsibility that does not correspond to me. I am aware of the risks that these types of practices imply and I do not support or encourage them, even more so as a professional soccer player and public figure.”
Furthermore, he noted that “there were no injuries or incidents, and my presence was simply that of an observer in an everyday moment.”
“I thank those who know me and know that I am a responsible person and committed to my career. I ask for respect for my name, my image and my work. Thank you all very much for your understanding,” concluded Zapata.
