Carlos Alcaraz still has a little way to go to catch up with Novak Djokovic in the Pantheon of world tennis. But in their personal history, the Spaniard could catch up with the Serbian, whom he faces for the 10th time in his career this Sunday, in the final of the Australian Open. After their first 9 clashes, Djoko leads 5 wins to 4.
The two men had to go through five sets to overcome their respective opponents this Friday in the semi-final. In the last four which pitted the top four in the ATP rankings against each other, Alcaraz (world no. 1) defeated Zverev (no. 3, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5) while Djokovic (no. 4) dismissed Sinner (no. 2, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Djokovic will have the opportunity this Sunday to win his 25th Grand Slam title, consolidating his own record, in 38 finals played. He is the record holder for the number of titles at the Australian Open (10). This is more than the number of Grand Slam finals played by Alcaraz in his entire career (7, including 6 victories). It will be the Spaniard’s first in Australia.
The final of the Australian Open between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will be followed from 9:30 a.m. French time on Eurosport.
