Stije Resink will stay with FC Groningen this winter, he says Could Much Less be the Podcast. The 22-year-old midfielder is on a list of candidates from Ajax, among others, which is eagerly looking for a controlling midfielder.
The FC Groningen player has been linked to Ajax several times. ESPN recently reported that Amsterdam residents see Resink as an important candidate for winter reinforcement. Bringing in a new number six is the number one priority for Ajax.
A step to the top of the Eredivisie would appeal to Resink. “I think that the step to the top in the Netherlands is very interesting for me, because I have been playing in the Eredivisie for a few years now and can then play for the prizes,” he says in the podcast.
The midfielder is currently keeping all options open and is therefore not expressing a preference. “I would really like to discuss that with the club,” said the born Amsterdammer. He also calls the Bundesliga and the Premier League great competitions, although he says that with a wink.
Ajax may be able to put a winter transfer out of mind. The young midfielder would like to finish this season at FC Groningen. “That is the intention, for me and the club itself.” However, the door is slightly ajar. “But if an offer comes along that is impossible for me or the club to refuse, that could change. But the chance is small.”
Resink was on holiday last week with Feyenoord player Luciano Valente and teammate Thijmen Blokzijl. Valente responded via Instagram to their holiday photo with the text. “Come Feye bro.”
The Amsterdammer did not expect that the internet would explode so much after that reaction. “On the other hand, you can say: ‘It makes sense that it will be picked up.’ But we just joke with each other, just like any normal group of friends. However, it is apparently under a magnifying glass for us. Maybe next time post a less striking comment,” he concludes.
