Last Season: A Deep Dive into Palmeiras’ Enduring Relationship and Project-Based Coaching
“I think the moast attentive fans who follow the club have realized that over the years we have been building a relationship. Not only between the fans, but also between the coach and the board, between the coach and the committee, between the coach and the players. I said two, three years ago that being from Palmeiras was a way of life.If you pay attention to many of the statements we made, or have been making, you can see this. As I said in this same place, that I was a project coach, I was a project coach, relations, therefore, in relation to this, coherence was always maintained and I cannot fail to say, in addition to what the palmeiras family is, the arrival of my family to Brazil, three years ago, when once again we were creating relationships and roots, not only in Brazil, not only in São Paulo, but in the Palmeiras family.
And then, when you want this type of relationship, when you are at a club where it recognizes you, where it gives you all the conditions, where you participate in what the dynamics are and in what the decisions for football are, and looking at today, where, such as, England already looks more like Brazil in what has to do with the dismissal of coaches, obviously that is fundamental. For me, as a project coach, it is essential to understand the club where I am, the project where I am, the people I work with, and you who are here with me daily, who know me.It’s very difficult to leave a club when you have all these conditions met,and the main one, which is what moves me,what moves me,is being able to fight for titles. This team demonstrated in almost all competitions, apart from the Copa do Brasil. I know it’s tough, I know it’s frustrating to come second three times, but simultaneously occurring, it tells me, as a coach, and it gives me signs that this team is ready, it’s prepared. And it’s not very easy to make decisions when you have a team that is extremely winning and you carry out the reformulation that Palmeiras did the previous year, 17 departures and 11 arrivals, yet still manage to compete in most competitions until the end, even selling vital players in what was the team’s dynamics, but also understanding what our financial health is and a coach nowadays has to understand football as a whole.
you can’t just look at what the sporting aspect is, but what the dynamics of a football club and its own management are. And, in this regard, Palmeiras is an absolutely unusual team because it fulfills and honors all its responsibilities. And, logically, for a coach like me, it is a great pride to be able to belong to a club with prestige, a club that fights for titles, and I think there was mutual growth here, me as a coach, and together with the greatness of Palmeiras. I personally feel very honored and prestigious to be able to represent a club of this size, not only nationally, but also internationally.Together, on several occasions, we can bring a lot of joy to our fans and that is what we work for every day.”
