Bernardo Silva’s name has almost always appeared in every Manchester City transfer rumor in recent years. Barcelona and Benfica are often mentioned as his next port of call, and this time that possibility feels closer as his contract enters the final months at the Etihad.
At 31 years old, one of Pep Guardiola’s most loyal soldiers is no longer guaranteed to be a starter for The Citizensespecially after they brought in a number of young strikers. Its influence is not as dominant as before.
However, Bernardo’s qualities remain highly valuable, especially in a slower-paced league with more emphasis on technical ability. Last summer, the Portuguese star signaled his farewell after nine glorious years with Man City. He said: “I still have one year of my contract, so obviously I can leave next season.”
Returning to Benfica would be an emotional and sensible transfer, while it is uncertain whether Barcelona will still be interested in him considering his age, but cash-strapped Barca could very well be tempted by a free transfer. Interest from Saudi Arabia also cannot be ignored.
