Zlámal: Slavia Goalkeepers Praised, Sparta Needs Competition for Vindahl

Slavia Prague ended the league autumn with a seven-point lead over second-placed Sparta, and both fans of both teams and experts are discussing the main reasons. The Šišivani have the best attack and the best defense, which is secured in goal by the goalkeeping duo of Jindřich Staněk and Jakub Markovič. The goalkeeping position has been a big topic for their competitor lately, and Peter Vindahl has faced criticism, especially from his own fans. Are harsh words directed at the Danish goalkeeper justified? We also discussed this in today’s edition of the Livesport Daily podcast with former league goalkeeper and current football expert Zdenek Zlámal.

Slavia conceded 16 goals in the opening nineteen rounds of the Chance League, which is an unusual number for them at this stage of the year. The last time she had that many was in the 2018/2019 season. For example, last year there were nine fewer on the account of the people of Prague. Nevertheless, the stitching at the top of the table after the fall holds a comfortable seven-point lead over Sparta, mainly because Sparta’s defense has been very fragile in recent weeks. In today’s episode, we also offer a statistical comparison of the Prague “S” goalkeepers.

“I don’t see a better goalkeeper than Jindřich Staněk in the Chance League right now in terms of catching shots. In addition, Slavia can also rely on Jakub Markovič, who was able to do it during the autumn. On the contrary, Sparta’s sports section should bring Vindahl a competitor who will be on his heels. He now knows that he will catch every game, but Vindahl simply needs that pressure, like most goalkeepers. Unfortunately, Jakub Surovčík is not yet the one who should compete with him in Sparta, but in my opinion it is the fault of the club management. I personally would go to Zadražil from Hradec Králové in winter. If I take the quality of the two best goalkeepers in the team, I think that even Pilsen currently has a better pair than Sparta,” says Zdeněk Zlámal.
