The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th Special Olympics Games concluded in Shenzhen
Yunnan Provincial Disabled Persons Sports Delegation Achieves Excellent Results
On the evening of December 15, the 12th Games for People with Disabilities and the 9th Special Olympics Games of the People’s Republic of China concluded in Shenzhen. After nearly 10 days of hard work, the Yunnan Provincial Disabled Persons Sports Delegation achieved outstanding results of 85 golds, 38 silvers and 35 bronzes in Paralympic events, achieving new breakthroughs in multiple events, and won 12 golds, 19 silvers and 29 bronzes in Special Olympics events.
This Special Paralympic Games is hosted by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the State Sports General Administration. It is the first time that Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have jointly hosted the Paralympic Games. It is the second time in history that the Special Paralympic Games will be held in the same year and at the same place as the National Games. There are a total of 46 major events in this Special Paralympic Games, and 7,824 athletes from 34 delegations across the country have signed up to participate. The size of the delegations and the number of athletes signing up for popular events have reached new highs.
Looking back at the exciting schedule of this Special Paralympics, Yunnan disabled athletes are fully engaged in track and field, swimming, cycling, kayaking, rowing, triathlon, badminton, blind goalball, sitting volleyball, blind football, wheelchair basketball, and deaf football. There are 15 Paralympic events including alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and biathlon, 5 Special Olympics events including Special Olympics swimming, Special Olympics track and field, Special Olympics roller skating, Special Olympics basketball and Special Olympics bocce, and 2 public events including dry curling and darts. The competitive performance of disabled athletes surpassing themselves and climbing to the top, as well as their self-improvement and optimistic spirit, inspire and inspire everyone.
For the first time, this Paralympic Games has set up a number of new events such as women’s blind football, women’s three-person wheelchair basketball, and triathlon. Yunnan disabled athletes performed well in the new sports. Eight Yunnan football girls went all the way and won the first women’s blind football trophy in the history of the Special Paralympic Games while maintaining victory in all five rounds. In the triathlon, the famous general Wang Jiachao led 9 athletes to achieve outstanding results of 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. The women’s three-on-one wheelchair basketball veteran teamed up with newcomers to win the tournament in third place.
Although the sports meeting has come to an end, the pursuit of dreams has not stopped. The Yunnan Provincial Disabled Persons Sports Delegation has always upheld the fine tradition of tenacity and striving for the first place, fully ensuring the event, allowing Yunling athletes to compete in the best competitive state, and achieve both excellent performance and spiritual civilization.

In particular, the blind women’s football team successfully won the championship for the first time as a team.
