Young Basketball Player Dies of Heart Attack: A Tragedy

He was only 22 years old. This Wednesday, Florian Louart died of a heart attack. Former great hope of the BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque basketball club, the young man died at the Amiens university hospital center. An immense tragedy for the family and for the microcosm of French basketball.

If he had stopped his short career in 2024 because of several knee injuries, the pivot had nevertheless been one of the hopes of French basketball. Licensed at Gravelines-Dunkerque, a Betclic Elite club, at the age of 13, he was then recruited by Insep to play at Pôle France, the factory of French champions. He then returned to his training club where, at the height of 2.12 m, he tasted his first minutes among the professionals.

“Florian was a nice kid, well-mannered, open to everyone,” recalled the director of the BCM training center Christophe Millois to Voix du Nord. Honestly, it hurts my heart. Dying at this age… The destinies of men are sometimes curious. It is a great sadness for us. »

On Facebook, Florian Louart’s father wrote a poignant message, expressing all his distress. “You were going to be 23 in January 2026, you were my life, my flesh, my blood,” he wrote. This morning, the Amiens University Hospital called us: your son had a heart attack. We couldn’t do anything. » He continues: “My life is broken forever. Your brother cries for you, he screams that his brother was stolen from him. It’s a nightmare.”
